A MAJOR Northumberland employer has given its backing to a new apprenticeship scheme.
Lynemouth's Rio Tinto Alcan has welcomed the creation of the Government-backed North East Apprenticeship Company (NEAC) to help build a skilled local workforce.

The initiative, which is supported by the National Apprenticeship Service, will directly employ apprentices and contract them out to employers.
